Tilak Varma began his cricket career with the Hyderabad squad against Andhra in the 2018-2019 Ranji Trophy. On 28 February 2019, he made his T20 debut for Hyderabad in the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored 215 runs in six tournament matches, with a strike rate of 147.26.
